Breves datos historicos: El dia de los muertos es de origen pre-colombino
basado en las culturas madres de nuestra America, así en Mexico este dia nacio gracias a las culturas diversas por eso su complejidad al rededor de esta tradicion.
José Guadalupe Posada le da el nombre a la
Catrina que hace poco cumplió 102 anos llevandose a cabo "LA TRAJINERA"- quien creara a la representante dama de la muerte.
Diego Rivera pinto por vez primera a la Catrina acompañándolo de la
mano, en una fiesta popular mexicana, denotando identidad entre lo antiguo y lo
moderno.
Para posada la muerte es un hecho democrático, ya que” todos seremos
calaverita al final en la muerte” los ricos, pobres, negros, morenos y rubios.
Paz es la organizadora de este evento tradicional Mexicano- ella nos comenta lo importante de celebrar las costumbres de su pais.
Su abuela se dedicaba a la celebracion del dia de muertos- y de diriguir tan
importante suceso como es hacer los altares y que no es tarea fácil; por que tienen una
secuencia de simbolismo que congregan energías y fuerzas cósmicas- entre la
vida y la muerte, y que cada region tiene costumbres diferentes.
Nos comenta satisfecha por la llegada de un señor que vino especialmente desde Mexico para hacer el pan de muertos y que estaran a la venta el dia de su evento este 4 de Dic. Ella misma hace los deliciosos
tamales, y es parte del grupo de danzas ritualistas
Aztecas "Atlachinoli" ademas de convocar este 4 de Nov al concurso de las Catrinas -Prometiendose a la ganadora una botella de Mezcal como premio. Estas y otras tantas forman el trajinar de Paz en este
baile del migrante que amando a su país, deja huellas de su cultura por
tierras londinenses. Cuenta con la ayuda de varias personas que igual que ha ella les motiva la celebracion del arte popular Mexicano. Finalmente Paz nos recuerda lo importante de no mezclar el dia de los muertos con otras celebraciones como el por ejemplo el dia de Hallowing ya que tienen significantes muy opuestos- Podemos palpar en todas las celebracion del dia de muertos fuera de Mexico- la reverencia a las tradiciones Mexicanas- de un Mexico antiguo y milenario que en mayor o menor grado esta presente en todas las celebraciones y que indudablemente nos sigue sorprendiendo y fascinando.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS / MEXICAN DAY OF THE DEAD 2012
HONOUR YOUR DEAD, CELEBRATE LIFE

This year the event will be even bigger, we are holding our traditional Mexican Day of the Dead across two venues. Join us at St Peters Community Centre and later at Hackney City Farm on Sunday 4th November 2012 for a traditional and spectacular celebration of life and death, bringing Mexico’s rich heritage to East London.
Mexican Day of the Dead is an annual tradition spanning back hundreds of years to pre-colonial times. It is a celebration where Mexicans honour their dead in colourful and festive ways.
We will start the day with our traditional altar, as usual you are invited to bring mementos for your dead (photos, food, flowers, cards, etc). Remember everyone that was important in your life counts, that means pets are included too!
Along with our Altar, group Cen Joatl Mexihka Medicine UK will lay their extraordinary ofrenda, typical from Central Mexico, and they’ll conduct individual limpias thoughout the day.
We will have Angry Sam holding the ‘calaveras’ contest. Calaveras are satirical poems poking fun at people in a way that suggests they’re dead, even though they’re alive. Favourite targets are politicians or people in the public eye. But can also refer to friends and family. They can be written in English or Spanish; the winner will be announced later at Hackney City Farm and the prize will be a brunch for two at Caffe In in Hackney Road.
This year is the 102nd anniversary of artist Jose Guadalupe Posada drawing the most famous face for the day of the dead, recognised all over the world; to celebrate this we want to invite the public to dress like La Calavera Catrina, we will run a contest and the winner will get dinner for two at MeZcal Cantina, Dalston announced later at the Hackney City Farm.
No Mexican celebration is complete without food, Rosa’s Kitchen will be selling delicious and authentic Mexican tamales, Day of the Dead bread, which can’t be found anywhere else in the country as we flew a master baker from Mexico City specially for the occasion!
PROGRAMME: SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER
10am: We will joined by Cen Joatl Mexihka Medicine UK. They will be performing a traditional Mexican offering ritual. Replicating the customs of San PabloTecalco, Central Mexico. The ritual consists of a circle of flowers, fruit and incense.
2pm: Aztec performance by Atlachinolli Dance UK will show off their spectacular feathered costumes, presenting their take on traditional Mexica dances and rituals.
10 to 3pm: Paola Feregrino will be leading workshops for children and families decorating skulls.
10 to 3pm: T-shirt designing a& silkscreening workshops for children.
4 to 5pm: A procession of Catrinas, skeletons, musicians and public will take the music and offerings to Hackney City Farm to finish the celebrations.
5pm to 8pm: Our altar can be still visited and public is welcomed to bring more mementos.
6pm to 7pm: Hackney City Farm choir will join us to remember the fallen of the wars and seamen.
